In the month of December we will celebrate the Days 12 of Yule, that is an ancient tradition celebrated between the Winter Solstice on December 21 and January 1. We will start on Friday, December 22.
The word Yule is a form of the Norse word Jul (or Jōl) which is the midwinter festival oriented around the shortest day of the year, the northern hemisphere’s winter solstice.
For the people of Germania, Scandinavia, and Anglo-Saxon England, just like other parts of the world, understanding the cycles of nature and in particular the sun, was critical to survival and thus celebration. Honoring the winter solstice is an ancient pagan tradition, predating Christianity by several thousand years. The Stonehenge structure in England, dating back to 3000 BCE.
