What Is Breathwork?

I have detoxed from gluten, sugar, and alcohol. I've fasted on juices, trained for races and practiced yoga. I've chanted, meditated, engaged in a myriad of spiritual endeavors and therapy. I've even gotten a Master's Degree in Spiritual Psychology. Breathwork, however, has been one of the most powerful healing modalities that I have experienced.

What is Breathwork?

This simple yet profound breathing technique originates from pranayama yoga. Breathwork is about moving energy and harnessing self-awareness through multiple levels of consciousness, beyond the mind, through respiration. It is a natural and active form of meditation and breathing. There are many types of Breathwork; Holotropic, Rebirth, Wim Hof and Shamanic.

What will you feel?

Research shows that Breathwork opens energy channels, rounds your energetic and nervous system, relaxes and calms and relieves stress, toxicity, addiction, depression. It clears away old stories and limiting beliefs, heals trauma and wounds. Clients experience an alignment of their chakras, creates flow through the body and opens their heart to a deeper sense of love. Breathwork enhances intuition and emotional intelligence and offers an experience that is revelatory, clarifying and healing and much more.

According to Yoga Journal "There is a very direct relationship between breath rate, mood state, and autonomic nervous system state, says Sat Bir Singh Khalsa, PhD, assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School who studies yoga and meditation. The autonomic nervous system governs the body’s sympathetic (fight-or-flight) and parasympathetic (rest-and-restore) responses, dialing functions like heart rate, respiration, and digestion up or down as necessary in response to potential threats. Evolutionarily, this worked as a survival mechanism, but today’s nonstop barrage of smartphone pings, emails, and news updates also trips the body’s alarms—and often."

What to expect when you come to a class?

I will teach you the practice of breathing and share what to expect as you breathe from my own experience. I will share an intention for the class and for your practice. You will lay on the floor, music will be played. I will incorporate hands-on guidance, aromatherapy, and crystals as you breathe and the rest will unfold. Each Breath Work session is unique and experiences can be different for each individual. After the class is over, you can stay and connect, or process on your own at home. Either way, I encourage you to take the time to journal about your experience and incorporate your insights and learnings into your daily life for several days after the class.

What to expect during a private session?

As a private client, you will share more intimately about what you are desiring in your life, what you are challenged by, any blocks or obstacles you are facing or what you would like to heal and clarify. As we talk, I will share any intuitive hits that come forward. Then I will teach you the practice of breathing and share what to expect as you breathe. I will ask you to set an intention for your experience. Then you will lay on the floor and music will be played. I will incorporate hands-on guidance, aromatherapy, and crystals as you breathe and the rest will unfold.

Each Breath Work session is unique and experiences can be different for each individual. Once the active breathing is over, you will breathe and lay to get grounded. We will talk briefly after the session. I will encourage you to take the time to journal about your experience and incorporate your insights and learnings in the days following the Breathwork.
